Whew!  Where did the past 4 months go?  A whirlwind of taking care of performances, students, classes and family – and not this website, that’s where.  Even as I write this, I’m vetting R. Carlos Nakai recordings for my student Caitlen who is working on Katherine Hoover’s Kokopeli, listening to the soundtrack to the PBS series The Mississippi River of Song: A Musical Journey Down the Mississippi in preparation for our faculty exploratory trip to Louisiana next Saturday, grading homework and planning next week’s classes.   Being a musician and college professor means major multi-tasking even on snowy Saturday afternoons.

Also on my list this afternoon?  Compose and record an entry for Studio 360s Remixing Challenge – to create a composition using at least one of the bird sounds from the Macaulay Library at Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  Why not?  A little woodwind multi-instrument + bird song composition sounds like fun.

In January and February my woodwind quintet performed at Denison University, Kenyon College, Ohio Wesleyan University and then returned to Denison for their Tutti New Music Festival – great concerts, inspiring a few composers to send us new works – Rococoa Wind Quintet (yes there is always chocolate) is off and running!

Thank you to all you high school students who have attended our recruiting events at OWU – Woodwind Day, OWU President’s High School Honors Band Festival and the appointments for visits, sample lessons and auditions – we love showing off our program to you!  Come again and bring your friends!
