Welcome Autumn! With the brilliant leaves unmistakably going full throttle into Technicolor, my colleagues and students are heading into our Fall music events.  This month I’ll have the opportunity to perform a faculty recital with my Ohio Wesleyan Faculty trio, Tour d’Anches (Karen Pfeifer, oboe; Karen Atria, bassoon; Nancy Gamso, clarinet) joined by our new piano faculty member, Frank Chiou.  Our program will feature the Petite Suite by Jean Rivier, Tour d’Anches by Florent Schmitt; Karen P will perform the beautiful Malcolm Arnold Sonatina; Karen A will entertain with the Miguel del Aguile Sunset Song and I’ll be finding my 5/8 groove in Bernstein’s Sonata all collaborating with Frank with his fabulous piano playing.  Come join us, Jemison Auditorium, Sanborn Hall, OWU, 23 Elizabeth St., Delaware, OH; Sunday, October 14th, 3:15 pm. Here’s the schedule of all the OWU Music events: http://music.owu.edu/concertSchedule2012-2013.html

Woodwind Day at OWU! December 1st, 9 am to 3 pm, Sanborn Hall, OWU, 23 Elizabeth St., Delaware, OH – This is our first annual Woodwind Day with the new faculty!  We will each hold a master class for each woodwind area, hold numerous woodwind chamber music reading sessions, and new this year – composition & improvisation workshops by our new composition professor Jen Jolley.  We close with a faculty recital featuring the faculty trio and a newly commissioned work for the occasion by Dr. Jolley.  Lunch will be provided as well as a swag bag from OWU, Rico and other woodwind suppliers.  The event is affordable to students and music teachers and you will need to register.  Enrollment will be limited so look for mailings and emails and check back here or at the music department website for registration details to be posted soon.  I look forward to seeing and hearing you then! The clarinet studio and I will be joining the other student and clarinet teachers in Central Ohio for Caroline Hartig’s Clarinet Spectacular at Ohio State.  Caroline returns to Central Ohio and is having this fabulous kick-off event and has invited some of the teachers and clarinetists in for the show.  Our OWU faculty trio will perform and I’ve got Caroline convinced to do the clarinet quartet version of the Piazzolla work, Histoire de Tango, as recorded by Ricardo Morales, Laura Ardan and others. Caroline and I will be joined by David Thomas and Woody Jones from the Columbus Symphony for this performance on the evening of the 27th.  Frank Cohen will be there doing a master class and performing as well during the two-day event.  Join us at OSU, October 27 & 28th.  Here are the details:http://music.osu.edu/community-education/clarinet-spectacular

All’s well at Ohio Wesleyan University and we are growing by leaps and bounds.  Come join us for some learning and music making in a beautiful liberal arts setting!
